The OHIP for International Students campaign is organized by a coalition of Labour Unions and Student Unions, with the shared goal of ending the unequal treatment of international students regarding health care in Ontario.
Ultimately, the campaign seeks to restore international students and their families to OHIP. Members of this campaign raise awareness of the issues surrounding UHIP on our campuses and in our communities. The inequities in cost, access, and quality of care which UHIP recipients are forced to accept is shameful. This campaign further seeks to close policy loopholes which allow healthcare providers to charge UHIP recipients more than the OHIP rate for medical services. Students realize the need to block further downloading of healthcare costs onto international students via additional co-payments and access fees. The UHIP Steering Committee that administers UHIP has no permanent seats for international student representatives with full voting rights. As students we must demand greater transparency and better communication from the UHIP Steering Committee and stand up to the costly injustices against international students on our campuses.336 Student Centre, 4700 Keele St. York University, Toronto, M3J 1P3 tel:416.736.5324 | fax:416.736.5827 | yfs@yfs.ca
