YFS Access Centre External Coordinator
The YFS is seeking an Access Centre Coordinator for the 2013-2014 academic year that is interested in improving accessibility for all at York.
Responsibilities:
Advocate to the University and external bodies on behalf of students with disabilities.
Develop referral relationships and liaise with University bodies that deal with accessibility matters.
Liaise and collaborate where possible with student groups or clubs at York engaged in disability advocacy.
Meet with the YFS Vice-President Equity or a designate on a monthly basis to provide an update on the Centre’s activities
Carry out campaigns, events and advocacy initiatives related to accessibility issues both on and off campus
Submit a year-end report to the YFS Vice-President Equity, in collaboration with the Internal coordinator outlining the Centre’s activities and a summary of expenditures.
Ensure the Centre operates within an anti-oppressive framework
Represent the YFS Access Centre on University accessibility committees
Work with the internal coordinator to develop an annual budget for the YFS Access Centre.
Report to the YFS Campaigns & Equity coordinator
Other duties as may be from time to time assigned by the Vice-President Equity or the YFS Campaigns & Equity coordinator
Qualifications/Skills:
Must be a member of the YFS for the Fall/Winter 2013-2014 academic year.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Familiarity with relevant Provincial legislation such as the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) as well as University policies
Knowledge of and demonstrated commitment to anti-oppression principles
Excellent communication, interpersonal and problem solving skills
Familiarity with disability advocacy work and knowledge of services and relevant departments at the University and the community
Familiarity with and ability to create and effectively execute campaigns and advocacy work
Familiarity with the student movement and the work of the YFS.
Work proficiently with basic computer programs and assistive technologies
Experience with development and implementation of campaigns and programming
Hours
10-15 hours per week at $12.50 per hour.
