YFS Tax Support Clinic
Every year, the York Federation of Students hosts a FREE Tax Clinic because we know that tax season can be stressful and nerve-wracking. Taxes can be overwhelming for many students, from the confusing and tedious steps to the expenses. We are happy to provide students with support in filing their tax returns.
The YFS Tax Clinic can only assist students hoping to file basic taxes with a modest income. This includes family income that should be less than:
- $35,000 for 1 person
- $45,000 for 2 people
- $47,500 for 3 people
- $50,000 for 4 people
- $52,500 for 5 people
Basic tax situations include:
- Employment Income
- Pension
- Registered retirement savings plan (RRSP)
- Interest (under $1,000)
- Benefits (e.g. Canada Pension Plan, old age security, disability insurance, employment insurance, and social assistance)
- Scholarship, fellowships, bursaries, or grants
Any returns that fall outside of these restrictions cannot be filed by volunteers at the YFS Tax Clinic.
Please note: The YFS TAx Clinic will be helping students fill out their 2023 tax returns. If you require assistance filling out 2022 and prior returns, we require a minimum of 48 hours’ notice to accommodate. We cannot do a prior year’s tax return within the same 30-minute session.
